History of the Vintage Candy

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. Nothing is more 'in touch" with today than the Vintage Candy of yesteryear. A time when things were much kinder and less complicated, we all feel nostalgia rising inside of us when we see our favorite candies when we were a child. Vintage candies were popular around the 1800 to 1900s, capturing the heart and soul of the good ol' days.

History of Whitman's Candies

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. Nothing touches the heart more than by receiving a Whitman's box of chocolates for a birthday, an anniversary, Christmas, or Easter. How he started his candy empire is an interesting story, as a 19-year old Quaker tried to compete with the top French candy makers of the time in 1842.

Hershey's - the American Chocolate Candy Icon

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. There are very few people who have not heard of Hershey's candies, especially with Easter holiday coming up. Not a product to be taken lightly, it originated in 1894 with Milton S. Hershey. Here is a story of how his chocolate became the first mass produced candy product in the United States.

The Voiceless Screams of Invisible Haitians

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. The poor people of Haiti had found their voice to let the world know of their misery...even before the destructive earthquake that hit them on January 12, 2010. Unfortunately, this has turned into an invisible scream by invisible Haitians who are so poor they have no home, not enough food or water, no jobs....and not enough caring. This energetic surge which sustained them has turned into a trickly of nothing....where dying bodies are stepped over nonchalantly.

Relationship Between Holidays and the Vernal Equinox

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. Every year, the Easter date is set during the vernal equinox, or the "spring" equinox. At this point, the length of day and night is considered the same all over Earth. Because of this the equinox not only determines when we are going to have Easter but many other moveable holidays and feasts that are not dependent on the Gregorian or Julian calendars---Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Ascension Day, Pentecost, or Holy Thursday---all centered around the resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God.

Helping Disaster Victims Unconditionally

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. With disasters such as Haiti, Cuba and New Orleans in our recent history, people who offer help from the bottom of their help is what allows people to survive through such catastrophic disasters. Many of those people who give are pennies above the people they are helping. What makes struggling people offer money and assistance, when they themselves are in such need?

The Saint Valentine's Day of Pope Saint Gelasius I

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. Considered one of the most prolific writer of the early popes and the last pope of African origin of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Saint Gelasius I is known to have declared February 14, 496 A.D., as the first Feast Day of Saint Valentine. As we know, three saints by the name of "Valentinus" or Saint Valentine were martyred for their faith, with the patronage of Saint Valentine extending to epilepsy, the plague, travelers and young people. But only one was associated with love and marriage.

Spirituality Core Found in Brain

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. Recent studies of neuroimaging have connected the frontal, parietal, and temporal cortexes with the individual's spiritual experiences. Unfortunately, what has been seriously lacking previously has been the causative link between the spirituality and the brain's network. This problem has now been solved with Dr. Cosimo Urgesi from the University of Udine in Italy finally demonstrating the world's first causative link in his symptom-lesion mapping study.

Recently the organization "Doctors Without Borders" announced they had reached the quota of donated money to do their work in Haiti, but people still keep on donating through small grass-roots parties around the United States. Eight-nine percent of their funding comes from private sources, not government. Known as MSF globally, the United States refers to it by its official English translation, Doctors Without Borders, which in 2006 had more than three million individual donors and private funders.

How Alcohol is Unhealthy for Women

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. In the past five years, the UK has reported that 50% more women have been arrested for being drunk and disorderly conduct, a growth which began in 1953 in the United States. The problem with this growth is that it has been found that heavy drinking in women is much more risky than in men. It has also been found that drinking alcohol by women, even in the smaller amounts, will affect women differently than men.

Are You a Conscious Creator?

By Jackie Lapin. The world is divided into two types of people -- Conscious Creators and Unconscious Creators. Most people fall into the latter category. They don’t understand why their life is falling apart, why their job makes them unhappy and why they can’t attract the right partner. They feel victimized, angry or depressed. Unconscious creators are manifesting most of their own misery unconsciously!

Consciously Create Your Day

By Jackie Lapin. Most of us just go about life each day feeling like wind chimes…sometimes we make lovely sweet music and sometimes we are buffeted by gale force winds, with wild dissonant sounds. Often we feel at the mercy of fate, which is handing us some good days and some days that are filled with roadblocks, obstacles, annoyances and frustrations. At the end of the day, we’re so tired from the challenges that we just collapse in a heap with little energy to enjoy our families, friends or quiet time at home.

It is a common belief that Christopher Columbus was the first westerner to set foot in America, but this theory has been challenged with the discovery of the Kensington Rune Stone in Minnesota. Originally found in Minnesota in the year 1898 by a 10-year son of a Swedish American immigrant farmer who called it an "Indian almanac", the 202-pound mysteriously engraved stone was said to be found in the roots of an upturned stunted poplar tree, at 31-inches high and 16-inches wide.

The Act of Forgiveness

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. We hear about the Grace of God, but do we truly understand how it works when forgiving others or our sins? The forgiveness of sin or any earthly transgression is a great truth in the Bible or our soul, as we all sin or we would not be on Earth but heavenly angels who are sinless. When we forgive another or our self, we expect a change in action. When we forgive someone, we do not expect them to continue as before as seeking forgiveness demonstrates an inner need for sincerity and honesty.

In a country that was originally founded on divine providence, we originally felt that God had a hand in the development of the United States, a country to be proud of. We did not have to use statistics on God to force our opinion on unsuspecting victims. A recent study has looked deep our brain scans for the relationship between our mind, religion and our belief in God, showing that those who believe in God have physical signs of higher thought patterns, emotions and thinking about metaphorical meanings behind religious teachings found in the person's actual brain scans.
