By Nancy L. Young-Houser. In today's times, money is not only tight it may not be available at all in an upcoming recession, or even in a possible depression. With no money, we need to better understand that knowledge is still important to keep the brain alert.

Furthering Education for Middle-Aged Individuals

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. With all the children grown and gone and with retirement right around the corner if it isn't here already, one would think that online learning would be a snap for individuals over the age of 60. And with the economy the way it is, new careers limited by age and physical conditions are in the making for several seniors who have lost some of their retirement savings or homes. With this in mind, many educational institutions offer free education to those over this age, but lately the flexibility to stay at home and maintain flexible hours while learning are beginning to become extremely popular for this generation. Yet universities for people over 50 are almost impossible to find, other than through distance learning, forcing many to look elsewhere if they do not wish to mix ages in the classrooms.

Problems in Online Education

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. When the online learning classes first developed in the late 1990s, they began with a low quality educational system that was simply a fad and a new trend because of the new mass usage of the Internet technology. Today it is considered an established educational system which has begun to prove its 'mettle through the tests of time and extreme popularity.

Choosing the Best Online Long-Distance School

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. Once a person decides to take an online class and they have their goals in mind, they need to understand that not all schools are the same and degrees are just as varied. In the same way, students will be just as varied, with some more self-contained than others and able to follow a schedule better. Even so, the distance educational system is extremely flexible, allowing certain courses to be taken entirely online while others offer homework and testing away from the table at the kitchen table

Distance Learning

By Nancy L. Young-Houser. There are many reasons for obtaining online educations—having to quit school for one reason or another, illness, physical disabilities, or being located out in the middle of nowhere. Whatever the reason, anyone with a computer and the Internet can still obtain knowledge in this day and age. I prefer it because I can pace myself better, studying when I want and taking tests when it is convenient for me, not the school.
