Why Change is Good When It Comes to Your Health
Submitted by: Lynda Forman
Too often, we think that if we just eat one kind of food or we follow one kind of diet, that will solve all of our health problems. After all, what's worked for us in the past should work for us in the future, right? Well, that's not quite how the body works. Our bodies are far more complicated than we tend to give them credit for, and as a result, we tend to form habits which may not be in line with how our bodies really work – or what they really need. Change is necessary in order to stay healthy – here's what you need to know.
Why the Body Needs Change
When you do the same thing again and again, it becomes a habit, almost a thoughtless activity, right? Your body responds in the same way. When you do the same workout routine again and again, your body will become accustomed to it, using less energy and less muscle to perform the movement. And in time, this movement will not give you any benefit anymore. Likewise, stagnation in your diet can also cause your body to become accustomed to what you are eating, rather than to fully access the nutrition these foods provide. The world is filled with good foods which can provide you with vitamins and minerals – but if you only eat from a few of these food groups, you aren't getting as balanced a diet as you need.
Changing Your Diet
The easiest way to improve your health is with your diet. Since you probably enjoy eating, you will enjoy making changes that will enhance your eating experience. You can start by choosing more colors in the foods you eat. That is, try eating more green foods like spinach or more red foods like red peppers. The more variety there is in the coloring of your food, the more nutrition you are likely to be getting from your diet. You will also want to introduce different types of foods to your diet – for example, try eating some vegetable based proteins in addition to your typical meats. Or you might want to try the exotic fruits you see in your store, but aren't quite sure how to eat.
Changing Your Exercise Plan
Your muscles need to be challenged each time you exercise. You can achieve this by constantly changing the sorts of exercises you do and the weight amounts you use. This way, your body is never accustomed to your workout and you are constantly building muscle and stamina. You might also want to add a flexibility type of exercise to your daily routine as well as some strength training or cardio if you don’t do those types of activities. These three activities have been shown to help you establish physical balance and fitness for your body. Change is good – especially when it comes to your health. What are you going to change today?
