Unique Ways to Hunt for Jobs
Submitted by: Lynda Forman
With more job hunters out on the prowl than ever before, chances are good that your resume isn't going to be enough to really get the attention of your next employer. You need to be more creative than you have been in the past – and you need to start by looking for new ways to hunt for jobs. Gone are the times when your qualifications were all you needed. Today's job hunt is a game, and you need a better strategy.
Go Right to the Boss
While you might understand the way the corporate world works, with its human resources department, this doesn't necessarily mean you should going to them when you want to get a job. Think about all of the paperwork the human resources department has to handle after they post a new job. And only when that is done do the upper management or hiring bosses see the applicants that made the grade. But since there are so many applicants, your resume might get lost in the shuffle. To avoid this, you need to avoid the HR department. While there's nothing wrong with going through the appropriate channels, you need to realize that going right to the hiring boss may be a quicker and more effective way of getting a company's attention. You can try to deliver your resume to the boss in person or mail (or email) it directly to them. You might also want to try to catch the boss when he or she is walking in the door in the morning, or call them on the phone. This sounds aggressive, and it is, but it works. You get seen by the person who would be hiring you anyway – without all of the run around of the HR department.Start a Chain Letter Online
Some people are also looking to their email accounts to begin sending their resume out to as many people as possible. You might want to send your resume to your friends and family, with the intention of getting it to as many employers as possible. If you want, you can even offer a 'reward' of sorts to those who get you an interview appointment. This way, your resume gets to people without your having to run around town to do the work yourself. Work smarter, not harder.Go to Your Old Bosses
Assuming you still have a positive relationship with your old employer, call them up to see if they're hiring at the current time. Since they already know your work ethic and qualifications, you might be the easier person for them to hire back into their team. Of course, you might not secure the same salary, but heading back into a workplace you already know is certainly easier on the training aspect and definitely better than nothing at all. No matter how long it's been since you've had a job, you don't have to wait another week to head off to work in the morning. With these tips, you will be fielding offers for your services – all because you took a unique route and showed persistence is better than the name of the college you attende* * * * *
