The Staying Power of Hope
Submitted by: Nancy L. Young-Houser
On the very day Barack Obama became the 44th president of the United States, faces were filled with hope as tears of joy ran down faces of the spectators. Hope was something so many of these people had not seen for a long time, and listening to the words of this man brought to the forefront a feeling which had become a rarity. People began to be filled with a desire to step forth within their own communities and their country, with a strong desire to help those less fortunate during these hard times. This hope has shown itself through the emotions and behavior of the American people, offering to everyone the courage and strength to make a stand for what is right.
As he struggles through his efforts for the American people and the economy, Barack Obama has successfully created a feeling of unified hope that has given this country a positive frame of mind, helping all of us find a solution to what is affecting us in a negative way. As we absorb these feelings of hope, we feel maybe we cannot fail as these strong feelings inside of us prevent negative thoughts from forming within. Feeling hopeful develops a state of consciousness in which we refuse to allow negativity to develop or breed within, as those of us who support President Obama attempts to change the partisan politics of the past decade or so.
Most of our defeats and failures are based on our own creations, or we have imported them from those around us—enemies and friends alike. But what we do not recognize is that anything short of hope or positive thinking is destroyed through negativity, power and greed, with the American people the victims. President Obama has said he has nothing to lose by being civil and extending his hand, when asked, "Are you being too nice in politics?" We need to accept that hope is the strongest of actions against negativity, with the action of hope broadcasting all constructive thoughts into an open magnetic atmosphere around us. It is our voice of the future. It is the way we will advance.
Growth and development is how we will prosper, with hope leading the way. But this cannot be made possible through the nourishment of the pessimistic spirit of the media—a voice against hope. It fills our world on a daily basis with violence, destruction, manipulation, and negativity. We need to learn to select what surrounds us, changing the alarming crisis of the world into a positive process of transformation. Whether we are a Republican or Democratic, we need to honor our country's president instead of maintaining a negative voice against his every step of the way. He won the vote, and his job is to care for this country to the best of his ability. His campaign was one of hope and it is one he has stayed steady with, regardless of negative opinion. Now we need to be one in unity with hope and determination to make this country a better place for our children by teaching them the opposite of bitterness, hate, viciousness and anger which will prevent our future from developing.
