Reiki's Healing Touch
Submitted by: Lynda Forman
When you're looking to feel better than you have in a while, you might want to see what Reiki might have to offer you. With its universal application and broadness of uses, you can not only use Reiki for simple concerns, but also as a way to manage larger and more chronic illnesses. But many people don't understand what Reiki is, preferring to think of it as something that is for the New Age crowd to use and to enjoy – while this is far from the case. Anyone and everyone can benefit from Reiki, so long as they understand what it is, how it works, and how they can learn about becoming a Reiki practitioner.
What is Reiki?
Reiki can be difficult for some people to grasp. The easiest way to define this practice is to say that it's an energy healing method that utilizes the energy of the universe and then directs this energy into the person to be healed. People who perform Reiki for others will direct energy through their bodies and then focus it on certain areas of the patient's body. The energy is not coming from the Reiki practitioner themselves, but rather from the universe with the Reiki practitioner acting as a conduit for that energy application. The practice of Reiki has been around for many thousands of years. This laying on of hands seems to be something that was initially talked about in relation to Jesus and his healing. When we would put his hands on someone and they would be healed, many believe he might have been using a form of Reiki as a guide. But this is something that is hotly debated, so perhaps this is just a stretch of an explanation to some.
Using Reiki in Your Life
One of the best parts of Reiki is that it can be used for a variety of illnesses, conditions, and concerns. Many people find the process to be very relaxing, which can help to diminish stress and to soothe frazzled nerves. One might also want to use Reiki for the management of chronic pain as the direction of energy can help to release tension as well as to focus healing energy to the afflicted area. Some have also gotten good results by using Reiki as a part of treating a disease like cancer. It is thought that directing energy helps to soothe the mutated genes or the other potential causes of the disease, slowing the growth and sometimes reversing it.
Want to Learn More About Using Reiki?
People who are interested in learning Reiki for themselves will find the process much easier than they might think. What you will need to do is to find a certified Reiki Master in your area, or in a nearby city, to help you with learning the proper placement of the hands on the client or patient. This can be learned from a book, but the Reiki Master will be essential to learning how to open up your own body to the universe's healing energy. Through a series of attunements, the Reiki Master will help you learn about your own propensity to heal others and to direct the energy to where it needs to go. Training just takes a few hours over the course of one day, or the classes may be split up over many days or weeks. You will also learn how to heal yourself, which helps to make your skills all the more useful in your own life.
