Making the Most of Your Flight
Submitted by: Lynda Forman
While we might try to avoid them as much as possible, airline flights are becoming the easiest way to cover long distances. And while more people are heading to the roads again with the decline in gas prices, this is surely not going to remain the case. For longer vacations and exotic destinations, airplanes will continue to be the way to reach your final destination quickly and easily. So, in order to make each airline flight more bearable, here are three tips that make the plane cabin a bit more like home.
Dress for Comfort, Dress for Style
Just because planes seem to be shrinking doesn't mean that sweatpants and sweatshirts need to be the way we dress for comfort. In fact, there are plenty of other clothing items that are just as comfortable – and these items will allow you to look fresh and relaxed when you arrive at your destination. Look for clothing items that are labeled – wrinkle free. These fabrics, as well as those made from synthetic materials, will allow your clothing to stay neatly pressed (for the most part), while also helping you to move without worrying about looking wrinkled after the flight. You will also want to dress in layers as this will help you adjust to the ever changing cabin temperatures. Choose thin layers that wick away moisture and wear those close to your skin. Then pile on other layers of cotton and natural fabrics to prevent feeling sticky and dirty. Your shoes should be roomy and easy to take off. There's nothing like removing your shoes in the middle of the flight to make you feel like you're back on your couch at home.Add Aromatherapy to Your Trip
While this might seem a little 'out there,' it really works. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to your wrists and to your outer layer of clothing or a blanket. This will fill your space with a soothing scent and help you to stay relaxed while on the plane. You might find other scents to be more soothing as well, so test a few out before you jump on the plane. Just a few spritzes or dabs will do the trick.Bring Things That Make You Feel Human
Some people need certain things in order to feel like they're at home. For you, it might be a certain pillow. For someone else, it might be a certain food or a bottle of hand lotion. Whatever makes you happy, make sure it comes on the plane with you (and still follows the restrictions of the airline). Other ideas include a favorite book, an eye mask for when you're sleeping, a favorite blanket, favorite music on your headphones, etc. Think of things that make you forget you're on a plane and then tote them on board. Your next plane ride doesn’t need to be an uncomfortable experience when you know what makes you happy. Over time, and many flights, you will be able to see what works and what does not. Who knows? In time, you might even forget you're on the plane at all.* * * * *
