As the results of data and statistical evidence is slowly gathering, it is being proven that people are turning to their pets more and more for companionship instead of their spouse, their children, or even their siblings. Puppies and dogs are dressed in coats, hats, sunglasses, and given jeweled collars and fur coats while the statistical rates of abused or abandoned children are drastically increasing.

If there was ever a time to take a look at society, now would be it. Researchers Brian Hare and Micheal Tomasello have written an article, "Human-like social skills in dogs?" which shows that domestic dogs are unusually skilled at reading human social and communicative behavior. Their study showed this is even more so than with our nearest primate relatives. The question is why and why should it matter?

Another study focuses on liberals being the ones who prefer raising dogs over children in an article by Kelly McParland, "Peter Schweizer: Why liberals prefer raising dogs over children." Another why, and why does it matter? It appears as if a certain segment of society today views children as a burden, where as dogs are not. Pretty simple and completely opposite from what it used to be. Living "alive and well" is the saying of today's liberal, apparently said to be wrapped up in the notion of "self"—if it feels good, then do it. If not – then don't.

What does this have to do with children and dogs? A 2004 U.S. Survey has showed that out of 100 conservatives, there will be approximately 208 children born to them. Whereas 100 liberals will only have 147 children. Hmmm. Instead, they will choose pets – preferably dogs – that they dress and talk to as if they were their children. Again…hmmm. It is well known that bearing and raising children is a difficult act – ask any first time mother. Plus it is an utterly selfless life .. or it should be, anyway.

But liberal states in the Northeast such as Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and Maine have the lowest fertility rates in the entire United States, with the lowest percentage of population under the age of five years of age. Yet in areas such as San Francisco, there are more dogs than children. Seattle WA has the same population as it did forty years ago, but with half the number of children and 45% more dogs. And as we know, animals (especially dogs) offer close companionship without the burdens and responsibilities of raising children.

How many dogs throw a tantrum because you bought a cheaper brand of balls or frizbees? Heck, they just want you to play with them. And if you come home from work in a bad mood, they don't hold a grudge all week or all month. By bedtime, they cover you will kisses because you have given them a hug and said, "I'm sorry."

Another study by the General Social Survey regarding how important it was to have children: 69% of the conservatives said it was pretty important. Only 38% of liberals thought it was. Almost any survey geared toward liberals will predominantly say they do not want any children. Period. The red states like Utah, Arizona, Alaska and Texas all want children, whereas over half of the women aged 15 to 44 in the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, and Vermont, have it on the bottom of their "to do " list proudly claiming the "left political position" and being child-free. Yet they all have one or two dogs, if not more.

In a world where kids are out, dogs are in, nearly have the population in Britain owns a pet with their birth rate steadily falling. The shocking thing is that over $6.4 billion dollars a year is spent on pets – birthday gifts, Christmas presents, doggie perfume, designer collars, and embroidered cushions to lay on.

In the article "Dogs take a lead over children" by Harmony Haveman, this has been going on for close to half-a-dozen years. In America alone, she says that there are more dogs per household than with children with a serious increase in dog shows. This year, over 21,000 dogs were entered in Britain's Crufts dog show, with the Guinness Book of World Records stating that Crufts is the largest dog show in the world with over 130,000 spectators.

The real issue is the liberals are drastically concerned about the breeding of their dogs, their care, and where they come from – bringing new laws into effect which is strengthening the care of the dogs through puppy mills and large breeders stricter regulations which is taking time, work and money. Yet they have that as they have no children – just their dogs which allows them all the time in the world to fight a cause. An intelligent group, they know how to fight and get what they want through the judicial system. And the world is changing because of it. Besides, the latest skuttle-butt has it that dog owners are more apt to get a date!!
