James A. Freeman is a transplanted Shasta County, Californian, who, for twenty-eight years, has taught Language & Literature and Philosophy at Bucks County Community College in Newtown, PA. 

The author of sixteen books, Mr. Freeman’s own favorite fiction titles are Ishi's Journey: From the Center to the Edge of the World (Naturegraph), Never the Same River Twice (Charles B. McFadden), and Parade of Days (Xlibris.com, bn.com, amazon.com) and Liars' Tales of True Love (publishamerica.com). He lives in Richboro, PA near his daughter Kellie.

Thank you James for answering a few questions for us! Besides the books mentioned above, what other works have you had published?

Novels, short story collections, poems...

Do you also do speaking engagements, or seminars?

Yes, frequently, in retirement homes, at colleges, in high schools, on radio, etc.

How has your education, profession or background helped you in your writing career? Or conversely, how has you writing success helped you in your profession?

My college creative writing courses helped me with my avocation of writing, and I now teach creative writing among other classes, so my writing informs my teaching: it's a dynamic...

Have you received any awards for your work?

Just in contests...


Is there any aspect to your profession that gets you in touch with your readers directly?

Online zines allow for dialogue with writers like me, as do online POD publishers via their e-mail features.

What will your next project be?

A collection of interlocked short stories...

Who inspires you on a personal or business level?

Touching souls/the human condition/the natural world...

What type of work is the most rewarding or satisfying for you?

Fiction.

What can you recommend for writers who are just getting started and are trying to make a name for themselves?


Network, network, network, conferences, conferences, conferences, writer's communities...

How did you get started as a writer?

Animal stories when a kid...

Which is your favorite book/work published? Is there a favorite?

Of mine: "Ishi's Journey" (www.naturegraph.com)  Of others: Steinbeck's "Tortilla
Flat."

What does a typical work day look like for you?

Teach five hours, make dinner, walk, write at night or early am, weekends, vacations...

Have you ever had a mentor, or someone who sparked your passion for writing?

Yes, Dr. Tom Gage, Dr. Christopher Bursk, Bev Stoughton

Who is your favorite writer/author?

Steinbeck, Christoher Bursk (poet)
