Adler is a freelance writer/teacher. Fiction titles published include: Parthian Retreat, Seres Sanctuary, and Parthian Karma (a historical trilogy); and two contemporary novels, Blackmail High and Ditzy & Champion. Nonfiction titles published: Exploring Historic California, Southern India, Consumer’s Guide To Travel, There’s A Bullet Hole In Your Window (memoir), Travel Safety (co-authored), and Make Steady Money As A Travel Writer.

Thank you Jack for answering some questions for us!  Please tell us about the latest project you've worked on.

A novel titled “DiMario’s Revenge” which is about how two men struggle against organized crime.

Have you received any awards for your work?

I was given a grant as a playwright by the Yaddo Foundation.

Do you also do speaking engagements, or seminars?

Yes.

How has your education, profession or background helped you in your writing career? Or conversely, how has you writing success helped you in your  profession?

A broad humanities-oriented education has been very helpful.

What kind of other works (books, scripts, poems etc.) have you had published?

Published books were cited above. I’ve had seven one-act plays produced off-Off Broadway and one published. Several poems have also been published.

Is there any aspect to your profession that gets you in touch with your readers directly?

As a travel writer, I’ve run online bulletin boards covering travel and thus interact with viewers. I teach travel writing courses at UCLA Extension and nonfiction writing courses for the Writer’s Digest School.

What will your next project be?

An untitled novel.

Who or what inspires you on a personal or business level?

Communicating core values.

What type of work is the most rewarding or satisfying for you?

I like most writing modes.

What can you recommend for writers who are just getting started and are trying to make a name for themselves?

Be persistant.

How did you get started as a writer?

Encouragement from teachers in high school and college.

Which is your favorite book/work published? Is there a favorite?

War and Peace

What does a typical work day look like for you?

I work at home, starting around 8 a.m. When I finish depends on deadlines et al.
