How to Discover Your True Passions in Life: What I Learned from 8 State Hurricane Kate
Submitted by: Jenny Pavlovic

Are you in a rut? Do you have trouble finding time to have fun and do things that you enjoy? Do you spend time on the things that matter most to you? Jenny Pavlovic, the author of "8 State Hurricane Kate: The Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog", will speak about her journey to Louisiana to help care for rescued animals after Hurricane Katrina, why she made the trip, the old cattle dog that she brought home to foster, and the events that followed, leading her to write a book, start a fund to help animals in need, and transition to a new mid-life career.
She will ask you questions and give you techniques for discovering your own true passions in life. "8 State Hurricane Kate: The Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog" has won 8 national awards and is reviewed in the fall 2009 issues of national magazines "The Bark" and "Angels on Earth". Jenny also speaks on the topic "8 Things I Learned from 8 State Hurricane Kate", helping people tune in to their animal companions, keep better pet records, and prepare their pets for a natural disaster. Look for the "8 State Kate Not Without My Dog Log Book", coming in 2010.
8 Things I Learned from 8 State Hurricane Kate:
1. Microchip your pet. Update the microchip company when your contact info changes. Keep good pet records that you can take on a moment’s notice.
2. Keep your dog on a monthly heartworm preventative. Don’t let heartworms invade and stop your dog’s heart.
3. Train your dog positively. A well-trained dog will be more comfortable in this world and less likely to get lost.
4. Socialize your puppy to different situations so that s/he will grow up to be a confident dog.
5. Make a disaster plan for your family, including your pets. Be prepared for floods, tornadoes, fires, etc.
6. Ask for help when you need it. True friends will be there for you.
7. Tune in to your pets… they’re tuned in to you. Give them opportunities to do what they were bred to do. Help them relax and be confident.
8. Be resilient. An old girl who has lost everything can recover with dignity and grace, and be happy. "The 8 State Kate Not Without My Dog Log Book"… coming in 2010
