How Do We Know Which Colors to Heal With?
Submitted by: Nancy L. Young-Houser

Working with healing colors is as flexible as the wind, as each individual person has their own characteristics. A dark red may work better with one type of person, compared to a pink in another, but with the color RED described as the color to be applied. Each color has a wide range of colors within its single color spectrum, making each individual their own best color therapist, or using a professional color therapist who knows you very well with excellent communication between.
The thing to remember is that all chakras need all colors at one time or another based on the problem area in mind, even though a particular chakra has a specific color assigned to it. The color white has all colors of light in it, which is why it is considered a purifying light. Not only is it strengthening, but before healing it will purify the body. Any color therapy work practiced on the body should have at least 15 minutes of applied white light prior to the session and at the end to remove all impurities for the color spectrum to work, enabling it to work on the entire energy system. If the body is acting up and you don't feel quite right, apply the white light alone to yourself as it contains every color---very seldom can you go wrong with it.
LIGHT AFFECTS THE SEXES DIFFERENT
Some people take Advil, some take Ibuprofen, while others take Tylenol. Each one swears by what works for them as a cure-all for everyone else. Color therapy applies its healing modalities in the exact same manner. But we need to remember that each person has a different frequency to run by, requiring different medicine, different foods, different therapy sessions, and healing tools to work the best—depending on the belief system of that individual that same as with men and women.
What works for one will not work in the same manner for another, so it is best to 'know thyself to see what works and what doesn't. It has been proven that a big strong man wearing a pink shirt appeals to women tremendously, as they feel it brings out the 'softer side of them. Statistics show that a man in a pink shirt is more apt to get a date than a man in a dark blue or black shirt.
Now, some men may be extremely uncomfortable about wearing this shirt as they view it as feministic, while to others it means no big deal. But there are many situations involved in the pink shirt scenario - it could have been a gift from the wife, the girlfriend, or whatever. And in actuality the color may not be working for the man psychologically but either the husband or boyfriend may feel obligated to wear it, or maybe even the single man checking out the statistics to see if he can get a date!
PROPERTIES OF THE COLOR SPECTRUM
White
The color white strengthens and amplifies the effects of any color it is used within healing sessions. It also purifies and strengthens the body, as it removes any impurities. Its keynotes are that it is purity; it is used for purification and amplification of the body to 'set the scene' more or less. As stated above, it should be used before and after healing sessions, or when in doubt which color to use.
White bride dresses for the young bride have always evolved around the purity of the woman on her marriage day, or a white outfit when christening a young infant in church. These were not accidents these things happened, even though they historically may have been set up by coincidence or instinct.
Black
When combined with the color white, black is used in therapy for polarity for individuals who feel they are losing control. It combines the entire color spectrum in it, while white has the entire colors of the light spectrum in it. You just cannot go wrong here. Considered a protective color, people who are in mourning or in tremendous pain on some unconscious level will choose to wear black or have it around them on some level for a feeling of 'protectiveness, similar to crossing the arms in front of them.
With keynotes for grounding, protectiveness, and calming during such times, it should be used by extremely color-sensitive individuals, as it activates both feministic and magnetic body energies to strengthen them. It should always be used in combination with another color. A sparingly-used color, too much usage can cause serious mental or emotional depression, or on the other hand will cause extreme aggravation.
Red
The color red is primarily used to stimulate the energy levels of the entire metabolism, designed to work with the circulatory system and sexuality. Used as a base chakra color at the base of the spine, it activates and awakens the physical life force. For healing, it is used for colds, mucus ailments, poor circulation, and anemia. For bad and good, it can strengthen the passions of the body - revenge, love, hatred, or courage—so keep in touch with yourself when wearing red as the emotions will come across stronger. Its main keywords are that it is stimulating, while also strengthening the life force, sexuality and will.
Orange
The color orange is the color of the second chakra between the naval and base chakra, affecting several areas of the body - the elimination system, the muscular system, emotional aggravation, along with most physical problems. While it stimulates feelings of socialism, it also is used to enhance feelings of joy or creativity. Connected seriously to the emotional level, it should be balanced with the colors of blue/green as too much orange affects the nerves. In healing, it is used in conjunction with the spleen, pancreas, depression, intestines, stomach, adrenals, and food assimilation. Those involved with emotional paralysis should use this color along with its associated peach shades as they are used in the recovery process and also to strengthen the aura. The associated keywords are for energy reserves, construction, activation, and optimism.
Yellow
The color yellow is used in association with the solar plexus chakra, located slightly above the naval area. It is used in conjunction with the digestive system, adrenal activity, the gastro intestinal tract and the left hemisphere brain activity with the solar plexus area being affected the most. If stimulated, this area awakes several areas: lessens depression, awakens confidence and optimism, while also benefiting the stomach and enthusiasm for life.
Too much yellow should be enhanced with blue colors, otherwise it can create mental tension and anxiety. Its primary keywords the body's awakening, intellectual power and its ability, and mental activity.
Green
The primary healing mechanism for the body is the color green, the most dominant color in the entire planet. Associated with the heart chakra, green is associated with the keywords circulatory system, sympathetic nervous system and most conditions aggravated by emotions - calming, balance and balance. Not only does it balance our energies, it also increases compassion and sensitivities, soothing to the entire nervous system. Used in healing are the brighter greens which are located closer to the bluer end of the spectrum.
Green also balances the autonomic nervous system, applied to many cardiac conditions, high blood pressures, headaches, exhaustion, and ulcers. Top of the line is its ability to greatly enhance the entire elimination system and the facilitation of the learning capabilities of the individual in question. Using green color therapy or having green around you can increase peace, hope, and greater friendliness, as it is restful and revitalizing to a stressed and overtaxed mental system. Going to a park and a walk in the woods always brings a calming effect to the human body, or any similar surroundings.
Blue
Associated with the brow chakra located between the eyes to the middle of the forehead, the color blue is applied to most conditions of the face and head, along with the endocrine system, reproductive system, and infections. A cooling color to the body, it has not only an anti-inflammatory effect but also cools down the body. Another healing modality is that is eases loneliness and awakens intuition, yet too much blue can offer the opposite effect, which is why it is combined with orange and red-orange colors.
A popular universal healing color for children, it is known to ease childhood diseases, not eliminate, in addition to chicken pox, asthma, or rheumatism. Keywords are associated with creative expression, peace, faith and aspiration.
Indigo
The color indigo is associated with activating the brow, or the seventh, chakra and is located above the top of the head. You can feel it by holding your hand 'slightly above the top of the head without touching it, palm downward. There will be a heat vibratory feeling in the center of the hand. With keywords such as altered states of consciousness, purification and integration, the indigo color is considered a high frequency color which offers dynamic healing for the spiritual and physical levels of the body.
