Do People Who Own Dogs Have More Sex Appeal?
Submitted by: Nancy L. Young-Houser
Recently a psychologist by the name of Nicolas Guguen and colleagues have recently ran studies whether or not "women" will get hit on more if they are walking their dog. And the results said yes, they did.
Now, this may have something to do with the increase of the dog population in comparison to a lowering of the children's population. Maybe women feel with dogs they have a better chance of finding someone – the votes are not in for that one. I am not sure, but it appears also as if the breed has something to do with it also, making the dogs endear their owners to otherwise total strangers.
The study was ran with the woman alone, with a Rottweiler adult, a Lab/Retriever puppy, and a Lab adult. Obviously, when she was alone she was ignored. When she was with the Rottweiler, she received more attention than when she was alone. But her most attention came with the other two dogs – strangers would both smile and offer verbal responses. Now, if she had been walking with two cute little children, what would the response have been? Nobody knows, as that study was not ran but the dog's looks, personality and approachability was more important to the stranger than the woman's. And it makes one wonder what would have happened if she had walked with a pitt-bull???!!??
Many animal lovers feel all animal lovers have a decent heart. Now, maybe they may be wrong, but a lot of people on the single scenes are looking for animal lovers as prospective partners in the single bar scenes anymore. An article titled "Dogs: The Un-Tapped Dating Service" by Susan Kauffmann refers to this very thing, with many realizing that if someone was not a dog person, they were not romantic material. The odd thing is that most dog lovers will walk up to a strange person as long as they have a dog with them on a leash, somehow realizing that there is a difference between a dog lover and simply a dog owner.
There are single web sites for dog owners searching for someone or for dogs to search for someone, based on the breed of the dog at www.AnimalPeople.com , www.LoveUnleashed.com, or www.DateMyPet.com.
Of course, it is not wise to rush out a get a dog just to meet someone or get a date, as both the dog lovers and their dogs are wise to such things. Animals have a sixth sense of who likes them and who doesn’t, and their owners are just as aware of the messages their dogs are telling them. When a stranger comes forward to the owner, most dogs can tell if the stranger brings harm or will cause some form of trouble, which may be why a woman or dog lover feels safer if they have a dog with them when a stranger approaches them. Who knows? But for sure it is working according to the latest statistics.
