9 Ways to Save Money On Your Wedding Flowers
1) Do It Yourself and save 50-75% of the cost. You'll need to buy my product to learn how to do that!
2) Avoid scheduling your wedding too close to major holidays. The week before a major holiday, the cost of all flowers goes up 10-20%. (Easter, Mother's Day, Christmas). The cost of flowers the month before Valentine's Day start to creep up, particularly RED ROSES. However, the week before Valentine's Day the cost of roses, any color will go up as much as 50%. The cost of any red, white or pink flower will go up at least 10%. And, the week following Valentine's Day, the cost of red roses is still a bit higher than normal. So, if you have to get married around Valentine's Day, stay away from roses, and any red, white or pink flowers!
3) Cut back on the ceremony decor. Typically, this is where you spend the least amount of time. Instead, use your money towards the Reception decor, where you usually spend the majority of your time.
4) Choose flowers that are in season. Importing flowers can be very expensive.
5) Opt for slightly smaller carry bouquets. Instead of the bride carrying a 10- 12" diameter bouquet, she can carry an 8" diameter bouquet. And, instead of the bridesmaids carrying an 8-10" diameter bouquet, they can carry 6" diameter bouquets. The fewer the flowers, the lower the cost.
6) If you want to use rose petals as any part of your decor, don't buy number 1/freshest roses. Instead, ask for roses that have opened too much to sell anymore. To a florist this is garbage, unless they are selling them to you for petals. The same applies to the wholesalers. You can buy the roses that have opened too much at a fraction of the cost of the tight, fresh roses.
7) If you want a tall cake with pillars separating the tiers and flowers filling the separations, ask your baker to use 2 inch pillars instead of 4 inch pillars. It will take half as many flowers to get the same look.
8) Opt for smaller corsages. I call these mini corsages; typically only one flower with filler, greenery and ribbon accent instead of 3-5 flowers, filler, greenery and ribbon accent. Again, the fewer the flowers, the lower the cost.
9) Get double duty out of as many of your flowers as possible. Use the bridal party bouquets to decorate the head table at the reception. If you aren't doing a head table at the reception, put the hand-tied bouquets into vases and use them as centerpieces on some of the tables. If you have a fresh flower spray or garland across the top of an arch for your ceremony, take it down and use it on the head table or cake table or somewhere else appropriate at the reception.
