We've all heard about them. They're making money without, seemingly, a lot of work, money, or even creativity. And yet, we still can't seem to figure them out. How do they do it? How do they end up making enough money for people to live off of them? Weblogs were once just simple programs without any real use in the Internet world – and then people learned how to use them for income. And that's where the mystery began. You too can turn your blog idea into a cash generating site.

Have a Great Idea

There are plenty of blogs out there that draw new readers in each day. Why? Because they can offer something that other blogs and websites can not – a good idea or a running discussion. Take, for example, the blog of Cake Wrecks. This is a simple Blogger blog that posts pictures of professionally made cakes and then criticizes them in a humorous way. It's not something that's amazingly brilliant, but it works – and it makes people laugh. The creator has even said that as many as 40,000 people a day visit her blog – and each of those people are certainly adding up to extra income for her.

Expand on Your Idea

Going back to Cake Wrecks, if you go to this site – http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/ - you will find that they are also selling t-shirts and other themed merchandise, all for the blog and for advertising the blog. The merchandise is low priced, fun, and people are buying it up. Certainly, the creator of the blog gets a cut of this profit, and that continues to monetize the blog and its presence on the web.

Advertising Matters

But the real money on blogs comes from the advertising space. There are two ways to go about increasing the money making potential of the blog. First of all, you can become a part of affiliate marketing, as in Google's AdWords and AdSense. These programs each work to bring people to your site or to have them click on ads that are relevant to your site while they are there. This will help to create an income stream for you without any additional effort. All you need to do on Blogger, for example, is to sign up with Google when you are actually constructing the page. It doesn’t cost a thing and takes seconds. You can also sell advertising space on your blog, just as magazines and newspapers do. This will help to generate income too as you are getting regular payments for this space so long as you have advertisers to fill it. Your blog can be the next big thing and the thing that helps you add to your bank account. But the main concern in making money from your blog is getting people there to start spreading the word about what you have to say. Talk to your friends, your family, etc. Post your blog address at the end of all of your emails, post it on your Facebook account, and let the world know they should be looking for you online. This will ensure you're drumming up business and making money as a result.
