Can Stress Make You Skinny?
Submitted by: Lynda Forman
Sometimes we hear about celebrities who have just gotten skinny from being too 'stressed' out in their lives. And secretly, we've wondered how we could lose weight that easily. After all, most of us would and could confess to feeling the burn of stress from time to time. But can it actually help you lose weight? Perhaps the Stress Diet is something you need to think about for a moment.
How Others Are Doing It
What you need to realize about many of the celebrities and famous figures in the world is that their schedule is actually far more packed than you may realize. In between shopping trips, they are primping and preening as well as going from one place to the next in order to do promotions for projects and to help keep their name on the minds of agents, producers, and other famous connections. They may not sleep for a few days or they might be jet lagged for weeks. This is hard on the body and when you're in a situation where your weight is constantly being judged, many of these stars simply don't eat enough to keep up with their lives. They may not starve, but they're also not eating enough to stay at a healthy weight. There is also some speculation that 'stress' may also be a code word for doing drugs. Amphetamines and cocaine stimulate not only the heart, but also the metabolism for short periods of time, making the user not want to eat. But over time, this can hurt the person taking them, even if they have lost a ton of weight in the process.
How You Can Use Stress to Lose Weight…Healthfully
But the truth is that you don't have to push your body to the limit with stress in order to become skinny. Instead, use the busy times in your life to rein in your eating habits and to add to your exercise routine. Sure, it might seem like you don't have time, but in fact, that's going to work for you. If you only have healthy foods at your disposal, you aren't going to reach for junk food to deal with your stress. So, when you're in a stressful period of your life, it's time to make sure you are filling your life and your home with as many healthy foods and options as possible. In addition, since stress can cause your body to become tense, you need to add some exercise to your life in order to release this tension. Just a walk around the block after lunch can help you 'reset' your mind and your body, while also helping you burn calories and lose weight. Most people will say that being under stress makes them gain weight because they simply eat whatever they can find, but you don't need to do this. What you need to do is to simply recognize that your lack of extra time can help you fit in healthy habits without really trying.
