The color spectrum has the ability to influence every one of our levels - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Because of this, it is possible for colors to affect who we are and how we interact with the universe around us, the same as some foods make us more content or traditional medicine when we are ill due to similar frequencies. But because of color we can see, we can experience what light is with both of them tied to every aspect of our life. We are surrounded by it, using colors to describe how we feel, "I am seeing red over it." "Aren't you just green with envy?"

There are neutral colors in addition to dark, light, bright, dull, neutral, earthy, pastels, and the list keeps going, but none of us is neutral about a favorite color we enjoy. We either like it or don't like it but colors affect what we wear, what we buy, how we decorate our home, and how we feel. The old saying is we are attracted to what we need, which is recognized on an instinctive level. But if we can become aware of this need, we can also use colors to benefit our lives on a conscious level.

The colors we would choose at night are not the same for our psychological, spiritually, or physical needs we need upon wakening in the morning or even the next day. That is because we have rested, and our needs are not the same. Times of the year have a lot to do with colors we need also on an instinctive level. But we need to be able to tell the difference what we need on an instinctive level as compared to simply following a trend - "Everybody else is wearing it, why can't I?"

Our grandmothers and fashion designers have traditionally designed with darker and more earthy colors in the fall and in the winter. A lot of it has to do with keeping us warm by these colors absorbing the sun's rays more for more heat. In the spring and summer when the heat is worse, we have always chosen to wear lighter colors referred to as "spring" colors as they reflect light to keep our bodies cooler.

But what about a person who has a strong instinct to wear a pastel in the middle of winter? If one follows the trends, they may over-ride what would make them feel better, instead choosing what everyone else is wearing and following the pack. Color when it comes to inner health follows these same instincts within us.

Start out by keeping a color diary, where the colors worn should be documented with corresponding moods or feelings, also which colors did we instinctively feel we wanted to wear. Become aware of the when and why of life. Color is a property of light, with different lights bringing about different colors. Also, every frequency of light brings about its own characteristics, whether we are aware of it or not.

Each color that develops has its own vibrational frequency which will affect us in a particular way. Each of these frequencies will affect us in a particular way. The more the color diary is kept, the more it will become more pronounced, making us more aware of the properties of colors. We need to understand that color is a concentration of light frequency, each color more specific than another color with each frequency different.

Healing with color is based on two different steps: each color's properties need to be understood by studying them; the second step involves specific techniques which will project and absorb that particular color.

But before any of this can be done, the art of becoming color sensitive and knowledgeable is mandatory. This is similar to obtaining basic math before one can learn algebra. Simply put, the more one gathers knowledge on colors and their healing modalities, the easier it will be to use them for healing and balancing.
