Diane Tegarden, an author of three published books, lives in Pasadena, with her husband, three cats and a dog.
She’s been a print journalist since 1992, and has written about renewable energy, environmental concerns, holistic health, women’s issues, and Native Spirituality.
In April 2004, she self-published her first book, "Getting Out Of Limbo– A Self Help Divorce Book For Women," which provides step by step instructions on how to achieve financial and emotional independence in preparation for a divorce. Her company, FireWalker Publications Inc. was formed in 2004 to promote her passionate, original written works.
She released her poetry ebook, "Light Through Shuttered Window" in December 2007; her poems are about life, love and the process of creativity. In February 2008 she published her third book "Anti-Vigilante and The Rips in Time", a blockbuster sci-fi novel set in the future, featuring ocean energy that changed the face of the planet.
Thank you Diane for taking the time to answer some questions for us! What are you currently working on?
I'm proofing the final version of my brand new science-fiction novel "Anti-Vigilante and the Rips in Time", three years in the making this book exudes mystery and mayhem in a futuristic world.
Do you also do speaking engagements, or seminars?
I have hypothyroidism, and am currently sticking to radio talk show interviews.
How has your education, profession or background helped you in your writing career? Or conversely, how has you writing success helped you in your profession?
I've been an environmental journalist since 1995, writing on a wide range of subjects. I incorporated my love of renewable energy into my sci-fi book, as the science I put into our future world is ocean energy recovery and solar power.
What kind of other works (books, scripts, poems etc.) have you had published?
I have self published a self help divorce book for women and a book of my poetry and lyrics.
Is there any aspect to your profession that gets you in touch with your readers directly?
Many people are interested in learning more about renewable energy as a solution to our environmental problems worldwide.
What will your next project be?
A sequel to "Anti-Vigilante and The Rips in TIme", and a travel book on ancient goddess sites in California.
Who inspires you on a personal or business level?
Tony Robbins has been an inspiration and motivator in my life.
What type of work is the most rewarding or satisfying for you?
I enjoy writing, putting together a well written engaging story that will carry my readers to another world.
What can you recommend for writers who are just getting started and are trying to make a name for themselves?
Don't forget that after you finish writing your book, you'll need to promote it too!
How did you get started as a writer?
I've been a writer since I was young, writing my own birthday cards for my family, writing poetry, then once I was in school I also enjoyed academic writing. I've never stopped writing!
Which is your favorite book/work published? Is there a favorite?
There are dozens of books that I love, it's hard to pick one favorite, but I can read some over and over again: Stranger in a strage land by Robert Heinlein. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Dune, and the many biographies which I enjoy!
What does a typical work day look like for you?
I start by reading my many RE emails, answer requests for interviews and then work on an article for Examiner.com. If I'm writing a book, I'll spend at least three hours on that alone, whether it's researching or writing or editing. I take a break at noon for a couple of hours, and then finsih the day answering more emails, doing promotion or updating my website (www.firewalkerpublications.com)
Who is your favorite writer/author?
Again, it depends on the mood I'm in, I enjoy reading science, history, biographies, fantasy, mythology, native spirituality, science fiction and about the environment and renewable energy.
Finally, a most important question: what was the last song you sang out loud when you were by yourself? :)
Hello it's me by Todd Rundgren!
Thank you Diane! We wish you great success with Anti-Vigilante and The Rips in Time and your future book projects!
