Brad Berkowitz grew up in Woodmere, New York, and earned a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986 and master's degree in finance from the Stern School of Business at NYU in 1993. He recently left Wall Street after twenty two years to work in sports business/marketing and to complete his books. Berkowitz has made several guest appearances on television shows talking about dating and the Manhattan singles scene. He currently lives with his fiance' on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The author was the co-host and producer of the popular cable-access television show called What's Your Point? which ran in Manhattan from 1995-2001. Berkowitz interviewed such sports legends as Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Brian Leetch, Iran Barkley, Gerry Cooney and Tiki Barber. He has also appeared in television commercials for McDonald's, Reebok, Modell's and New York One.

The 21st Century Guide to Bachelorhood is Brad Berkowitz' first book, but he is currently completing two more. His next book covers the life of three-time world champion boxer Iran Barkley and his struggle to get out of gang life in the Bronx and make something of himself on the grand stage of professional boxing. The third book is being co-written with Colin McKenna and will be a science fiction thriller.

Thank you Brad for taking the time to answer some questions for us!  To start, please tell us about the latest project you've worked on.

The 21st Century Guide to Bachelorhood is a humorous, but truthful look at what guys do and think. It will illustrate, in a humorous way, why they do the things they do and shed light on the things they think they get away with, consciously or subconsciously. It will also list the things guys should do when pursuing girls whether for casual or serious relationships, and will list the best places to meet women.

Men will enjoy this book as it points out the things they need to be doing to finally find the right woman. Women will enjoy the book because it will illustrate why guys do the things they do.

Have you received any awards for your work?

I have not received any rewards, but the reviews of the book on Amazon.com are very positive.

Do you also do speaking engagements, or seminars?

I will be doing speaking engagements and seminars beginning in the fall.

How has your education, profession or background helped you in your writing career? Or conversely, how has you writing success helped you in your  profession?

I have taken several writing classes in school starting in high school. I had to write many term papers in college and graduate school so my skills improved. In addition, I learned the art of brevity as I had to write 'bullet point' presentations for work while on Wall Street.

What will your next project be?

When I decided to leave Wall Street in September 2008 after 22 years, one of my goals was to complete the three manuscripts I had started, but had yet to finish. The 21st Century Guide to Bachelorhood was my first. The second book is about former 3-time world champion boxer Iran Barkley, his rise to stardom, and his fall from grace. It will show how a famous and successful boxer who made millions can eventually become even poorer than he was when he started. The book will have an inspirational ending as Barkley has dedicated the rest of his life to helping others.

What type of work is the most rewarding or satisfying for you?

I am now working full-time in sports business. I enjoyed working on Wall Street, but saw the economy and market about to fall so I decided to change careers and follow my passion, sports.

What can you recommend for writers who are just getting started and are trying to make a name for themselves?

Write a book that YOU would want to read. Don't listen to too many people about what to write. Find a subject that intrigues you and follow your instincts.

How did you get started as a writer?

My friends had been coming to me for advice for years with respect to dating and relationships. I began to collect stories and observations and just started writing. The book just flowed from there. My second book is about Iran Barkley, former 3 time world champion boxer. I met him years ago, just when he was about to unofficially retire from the ring. He told me his story and I thought it was fascinating.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

I have been working as the Director of Business Development for a startup sports marketing company as well as a salesperson for another company trying to find ad dollars for sports events sponsorships. I usually go to the gym in the morning leaving me the rest of the day to make calls and send emails. I try to find new teams/properties that would need our services.

Finally, a most important question: what was the last song you sang out loud when you were by yourself?  :)

I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and always see many shows when he is on tour. I find myself singing some of his songs when the mood strikes.

Thank you Brad! We wish you great success with your next book about former 3-time world champion boxer Iran Barkley!
