Angie Zimmerman has been making brides happy since 1991 when she opened her first flower shop in San Ramon, Ca. When Angie's husband was transferred to another part of California, she put the shop up for sale. After moving to El Dorado Hills, Ca., Angie decided she wanted to focus on the aspects of the flower shop that she loved, and get rid of the aspects she didn't love. So, her new business caters to wedding and party flowers only.
When the economy started to sour in 2007, Angie wasn't affected. But in 2008 that changed drastically. Angie worked with a marketing coach and came up with a Do It Yourself Wedding Flower Guide (workbook and 5 DVD's) showing brides how to do their own wedding flowers and save 50-75% of the cost. Angie shares insider secrets and guarantees if you follow her instructions you will save a ton of money and be very proud of what you accomplish! Angie still enjoys doing the wedding and party flowers, but is also traveling the country promoting her book on television and radio shows.
Thank you Angie for answering a few questions for us! What is the latest project you've worked on?
Do It Yourself Wedding Flower Guide
Do you also do speaking engagements, or seminars?
Yes, I have been the guest speaker at a couple of events and am currently working on a Recession Chic Seminar that will include all aspects of planning a wedding on a budget.
How has your education, profession or background helped you in your writing career? Or conversely, how has you writing success helped you in your profession?
I worked for a major corporation for 15 years before I opened my first flower shop. I spend time in the training department writing training materials. I organized seminars and led groups. That experience was incredible valuable and helpful when I decided to write my DIY Wedding Flower Guide.
What will your next project be?
I am working on a DIY Flower Guide, a general flower arranging and a Holiday DIY Flower Guide that will show you easy holiday designs you can incorporate into your home.
Who or what inspires you on a personal or business level?
I love to help people. If I can share my expertise and bring a smile to a bride's face I am very happy!
What type of work is the most rewarding or satisfying for you?
I love floral design, I can get lost in my work if it weren't for the timeline pressures.
What can you recommend for writers who are just getting started and are trying to make a name for themselves?
Write about something you are passionate about. It will come easy to you and for you if you know your subject in and out.
How did you get started as a writer?
I put myself in the shoes of my reader and try to write in a way they will understand and answer all the questions I know they have in their heads in a logical, orderly fashion.
Have you ever had a mentor, or someone who sparked your passion for writing?
My marketing coach helped me come up with the idea. My husband, put me on a schedule to get it done! He had to time manage me. Creative people tend to get side tracked a lot!
Finally, a most important question: what was the last song you sang out loud when you were by yourself? :)
Living in the USA by Steve Miller Band
Thank you Angie! We wish you great success with your next project, the DIY Flower Guide!
